Preliminary Task Report.
Our main idea for our Prelim task was a Thriller, but we decided to put elements of comedy into it. This is the task we were wet,which we felt the most comfortable with that we could make something interesting and exciting to watch. Chloe was an intern who was working, who then got told "Don't move!". This set up the main scene of the movie, which is a hostage situation.This has been done to make the audience feel sorry for Chloe, as she has just been taken hostage. This scene is meant to be very shocking and show the viewers that anything can happen in our film, which should bring them to the edge of their seats.
I was very happy with how the music went in our Prelim task, as I feel like it added lots to the dynamic of the story, and when the sound of our actor (David) starting to talk, the sound faded out so we could hear him talking. The music added dramatic effect which then drew in the viewers attention to the film.
I was very pleased with the variety of shots that was used in our film. We used; Master Shots, POV Shots, Over the should shots,Close up shots and an Establishing shot. The different shots that we have used add lots of different effects to the film, and the shots keep the audience intrigued with what could happen next. We did two over the shoulder shots, one over David's shoulder looking at Oktawian, and one over Oktawian's shoulder looking at David. This has been done to set up the 180o rule. This rule was also set up via the Master shot which happened prior to the over the shoulder shot.
There were several problems with our film, for example, we didn't have enough dialog to start with. So we had to record voice-overs for certain points where you can not see the persons mouth move. We did this so we could add more dialog to the film and we didn't have to re shoot the scenes. Not having enough dialog in the first place was a big downside to our film, as we could have saved time in the editing stage if we didn't have to record more dialog.
There was also a continuity issue with our film, and that was that we didn't fully clear our set. Things like bags, tables and even our teacher were on the set. We didn't intend on the camera picking up all of these things but this was indeed an issue that we should have addressed sooner than we realized. Another issue to do with the continuity was the length of the shots. Some of our shots were too long, and the cutting was poorly done, as you could tell when cuts were done due to the whirring sound in the background. These issues were not picked up on until the end of the editing, and by then, it was too late to re shot and re edit all of the scenes as we were coming up on the deadline for are Prelim task.
In conclusion, I think that our mistakes were something that our group have learnt from and I believe that we worked well and I am pleased with our Prelim movie. I think this is a good start to our life in Media Studies and I think that our final film will be a lot better than our Prelim task. I also believe that we did enough to pass this task in Media Studies.
