Props List

Props add a sense of realism to a film, that's why we have decided to use them in our opening sequence. We've planned to use five different props in our opening sequence. Two Evidence cards, Police Tape, a Metal Softball bat, a Mask, Fake blood and a  minor prop which is a mobile phone.

We decided to use Evidence cards, as these are typically found on a murder scene/police investigation area.We have used these as there will be a murder scene, which would then make sense for us to use these evidence cards, to carry on the sense of realism, and to tell the audience that one of the characters is dead. The cards will be used to point out evidence to the audience, perhaps evidence they would not of picked up on if the cards were not there.The cards also improve the atmosphere as they set the tone for the rest of the sequence. Using these cards would help to make our opening sequence more of a Criminal-esque thriller.


We're using Police tape to make the audience think that the scene is well setup for a murder investigation. We've used this tape as this is what all crime scene investigators put up to stop the general public walking over the evidence, which could make a difference to finding out who the murderer is. This prop would be used during the first couple of scenes in the opening sequence. Using this prop and the Evidence cue cards, makes the film have a certain direction, and it also gives the audience a time to figure out if they want to keep watching the sequence or not.

We're going to be using a metal softball bat, which is the key murder weapon in the opening sequence. We decided against using a knife for two reasons; number one, we didn't figure out feasible way to get a knife without it being a butter knife or foam knife, which neither are very threatening in a hostile situation.Using this givers the audience a feeling that the killer is very unique killer, not using a knife.


We decided to use a mask to try and pull off two things to the audience; 1, to hide the killers' identity from the audience, so they would have to watch the rest of the film The second thing we tried to do was build suspense. This has been done as the mask is beginning to be removed at the end of the sequence, so the audience could find out who the murderer could be, but they'd be on edge as they would want to find out who.


We would use fake blood to try and add more realism to our production. This has been done as the blood makes it look like that the actor has actually been killed, but in fact,they have not.
